Beating Heart is a collective of artists and enthusiasts who believe in the power of music to create a world without borders. Born in the heart of Sub-Saharan Africa in 2016, the project sprung from a vision to bring the world's largest archive of African field recordings into the present day.*
Beating Heart inspires today’s hottest producers to build new compositions using the original field recordings.
Beating Heart creates renewed interest in some of the most vibrant rhythms and cultures on the planet.
Moving nation by nation, each release from the Beating Heart collective raises monies for the communities that created the original music. Throughout 2017, Beating Heart will highlight the sounds of South Africa, Malawi and Uganda in keeping with their ambitious releases to date.
*Beating Heart has privileged access to the unique Hugh Tracey archive at ILAM, 1000s of recordings compiled between the 1920s and 1970s across 18 Sub-Saharan countries.
Sales of the Beating Heart Malawi' album support the Love Support Unite Foundation in rolling out the 'Garden to Mouth' food initiative at schools in Malawi.
The 'Garden to Mouth' food initiative:
Sustainably feeds students that attend the schools through organic irrigated gardens.
Educates students with practical knowledge giving them the tools to be in charge of their own food security.
Generates income, through sales of crops at local markets, that will be re-invested back into expanding the Gardens.
